Comment on Keeping private, public athletics separate may be best idea for now (Denver Post)
Valor should be asked to schedule there own games. Individual schools can
determine whether they want to compete and whether there is an uneven playing
field. As for me, the playing field is terribly uneven. Valor may need to play
other private, all-star, recruited teams outside the state. That’s fine…they
certainly have the money.
It is inherently unfair to require ANY school (but particularly a public,
community high school) to play any another school, particularly other private
high schools that attract (and/or recruit?) vast amounts of superior talent.
CHSAA and school administrators should protect and retain the freedom of any
particular high school to play anyone they wish to schedule. This is
particularly valid if the high school is being asked to play another school
that is able to attract a much greater ratio of unusually talented athletes,
WHATEVER THE REASON OR EXPLANATION (recruiting, more money, more attractive
facilities, good and abundant coaching, superior academics, or supportive
infrastructure).
The major attraction of high school sports is that PRIMARILY and LARGELY
public high schools draw from their community. It is amateur athletics in the
