Dell 1700n – Keep Your Wallet Heavy
Small home or office businesses today are always looking for ways to save money. The reliable, inexpensive Dell1700n has been designed to do just that. Equipped with abilities usually found only in more expensive laser printers, the network-capable personal unit can handle just about any PC that runs Windows operating systems. But, if you need high-volume, high-capacity printing, it’s probably smart to look around for something more capable. Dell 1700n Toner for the unit are also cheap, and easy to find.
Things to Remember. This is a printer made mostly for home or small office use, but it’s also able to handle nice volumes of work usually only seen in printers a bit more expensive. It can print over 15,000 pages in a month, in fact, before it would need service or replacement of its imaging drum. Graphics aren’t world-class, but for a printer of this cost, they’re more than adequate. You might want to consider higher-line machines if you need detailed, graphics-rich printing found in letters and such.
Specifications. Weighing less than 27 pounds, the Dell is easily movable, and at a bit more than 1 foot deep by 1 foot wide by 10 inches high, it won’t take up too much space. It also has a single 10/100 Ethernet jack and USB 2.0 ports for ease of use. There are even parallel ports, which are increasingly rare these days. All of these ports are located at the rear of the printer, by the way. As with most of these machines, you can feed in paper manually or within the feeder tray. It holds about 250 pieces, and capacity can be expanded for a small price.
Costs of Ownership. The Dell uses a standard toner cartridge (1700n) which sits above an imaging drum. Each cartridge is good for thousands of pages (about 3,000), which should be more than sufficient for any home-based business or small network in an office. There are also higher output cartridges, again for additional cost.
How About Memory Storage? Equipped with 32 megs of storage, you’ll find it can handle most applications. That memory is expandable all the way up to 160 megs, if needed for bigger print jobs. Memory is so cheap nowadays; it might make sense to immediately upgrade it anyway. Also, this printer can still interface with Windows 98, which is a rarity on most PCs, but it’s there if you need it. The Dell 1700n is also connected to PCs or a network through the interface ports located at the rear. If the 1700n laser toner starts running low, it’ll email you if you set it up for such a function.
Printing Quality. The Dell 1700n delivers up to 1200dpi printing. There are also easy menus you can follow if you have complicated or double-sided print jobs to perform. It can insert watermarks once an administrator has put them into the system. In fact, there’s an array of print features normally found in higher-priced machines.
Toner Cartridges and Service. Dell offers a one-year warranty on the 1700n. This is pretty common in the printer industry. If you need more service, you can always increase it up to another 4 years. The Dell 1700n laser toner cartridges are relatively inexpensive, too.
Is it Worth It? If you need a good, reliable and inexpensive laser printer, the Dell 1700n and its Dell 1700n Toner Cartridge should definitely be looked at.
