Most beginner skiers and snowboard riders simply don’t know enough about the dangers involved with their sport. It’s all too easy to get caught up in the fun and excitement of being on the slopes with either skis or riding a board. Lots of snowboarders spend a lot of time sitting but this is rarely done on purpose. This is why, when doing snow sports, you need to wear waterproof pants. The idea of waterproof pants might seem really dorky but all you need is a few hours without them and you’ll change your mind. There are plenty of reasons to want to be as warm and dry as possible. There is a lot more to this than being comfortable or whatever you think is most convenient. Kneepads are also a must because without them your knees will really take a beating during the day.
One thing that may not occur to a lot of skiers and riders is the importance of staying hydrated while you’re out doing what you love. It’s possible you’d be shocked to recognize how quickly you can become dehydrated and this will zap your energy levels. Not only that, you can also encounter a wretched case of muscle cramps in your legs just because of a lack of water in your body. You are knowledgeable of how agonizing a muscle cramp can be, we sure are aware, and you don’t want one to take place when you’re performing a dangerous movement that commands every bit of your attention and aptitude. Be sure to pack some energy bars and lots of water with you, and that is particularly critical if you are away from society.
You may be surprised to know that pole planting is perhaps the most overlooked aspect of skiing for many people, yet it’s one of the most important tools available to you. Proper pole planting allows you to time your turns better which is why it is important. Not only does it help you improve your turning ability and technique but proper pole placement can help you hold your balance better. To correctly position your poles, hold them in front of your body and up which will position your arms away from your body.
We know that it’s impossible to prevent all injuries when we go skiing or snowboarding. But it’s just like any other kind of sport that has its peculiar and inherent dangers.
Most of the time it simply depends on whether you are riding or skiing. Going out into the back country requires you to take extra precautions for all of the obvious reasons. If something happens you won’t have help nearby. If you go out boarding or skiing alone then you are taking on a whole lot of unnecessary risks.
