Ski Edge Bevel Angles?

I have a set of K2 commanche 4′s from a couple years ago. I have been getting them tuned at the shop, but want to start doing it myself. I found a tool for sharpening, labeled 88 degrees (I assume it is meant for a 2 degree bevel). Does anyone know what the bevel on my skis are? Or any new k2 all-mountain (apache series) skis (I think it would not change)? If not, lets say mine have a 3 degree bevel, what would happen if i used the 88 degree tool? Any knowledge on any of these questions would be greatly appreciated.

The reality is, there is no way you would notice the difference between a 90, 88 or 87 degree bevel. I won’t say it is nothing more than hype but it’s close. You can do a satisfactory job with nothing more than a flat file.

Sharpen your skis, then run your finger along the edges to feel for burrs (your finger will catch on the edge just a little bit – they have to be felt for, you won’t be able to see them). Gently remove any burrs with a whet stone or very fine sand paper, then wax, scrape and buff them.
