Deck the Halls NYC: One-Stop (Pop-Up) Market for Local Handcrafted Goods (Core77)
The Old School, a converted space at the intersection of Prince and Mott in
the Nolita neighborhood of downtown Manhattan, is currently hosting a holiday
pop-up market featuring nearly forty local(-ish) craftspeople and merchants
who deal in all variety of vintage, local, one-of-a-kind or otherwise hard-to-
come-by clothing, jewelry and objects. As buzzy as it may sound, Deck the
Halls NYC is “artisanal” done right, featuring everything from Brooklyn-made
bags to ginger syrup and everything in between.
Case in point, BKLYN Dry Goods’ immaculately-curated room is chock-full of
awesome objects for the tasteful urban adventurer, including rare vintage
gear, limited-edition timepieces, and all variety of bags… Not to mention
longtime Core favs Outlier, for those of you who want to check out the Minimal
backpack in person.
_The watches are a collaboration with Japanese watchmakers Dedegumo_
_Leather goods by Kika NY; they have bags as well_
_I spy a gift guide pick…_
The pop-up opened over the weekend, on Saturday, December 10, and it is
scheduled to run for twelve days, through next Tuesday, December 22.
_Found objects from WRK Design_
_The space is WRK’s permanent showroom_

A Rare Ruby $10.9 When Ruby’s father returns, shell-shocked, from the front lines of the Great War, the young girl realises that things will never be the same again. Forced to leave school and help her mother wash clothes, Ruby closes the door on her childhood. When she takes a job at the local laundry, Ruby enjoys the friendship of the other women there, but there’s also bitchiness and jealousy amongst the workers. At home there’s growing tension with the live-in landlord as Ruby grows into an attractive woman, but not the kind who’s willing to use her charms to win favours. Ruby’s heart belongs to one man only, a local boy she’s known all her life, but there are many battles to be fought before they start a life together… |

Rare Days In Lost Valley $5.09 A group of scholars meet at Bellwether University, not far from Ann Arbor, for an International Conference on Multicultural Initiatives. They become enmeshed in a tangle of plots that involve love triangles, the impersonation of a famous critic, the theft of a cigar store Indian, and an attempt to enter the school’s mascot, a pit bull, in the local dogfights. |
