can you run a 40 hp electric start boat motor if i remove the recoil starter?

the plate on top of the spring broke and it rattles with the motor running i never use the recoil starter just need to remove it if dont hurt anything

The recoil starter’s function is basically spinning the crank to get things going …just in case.. I don’t want to give you a lesson in mechanical engineering, you might possibly know more than I when I was your age, just thought Id tell you that you’re good.
