Radical Rsx
2011
I am looking for a good pair of skis that fit all of my needs?
I am about 80 pounds and am around 5 feet tall (junior ski)
– i am an expert skier and want a ski that will allow me to ski moguls, straight steep runs and be able to have a lot of speed
(an all-mountain ski)
– i mainly ski on the east coast on the hard-packed snow
– although i am not a racer, one of my main concerns is that the ski performs very well and will allow me to go extremely fast
first i was wondering if an SL or GS ski would be right for me
also, i was looking at a couple of different skis brands in particular and am wondering which would be the best, highest quality ski
- head, atomic, rossignol
specifically…
head SL/GS team
atomic (junior race skis)
rossignol radical rsx
if you have any other suggestions that would be better for me feel free to list them…list any comments about the brands (performance, if they tend to be stiff, speed…etc. (price is not a factor)
– please list specific skis/brands
Your question confounds me a bit, since you seem to want to ski both on moguls and at high speeds. However, it does not baffle me sufficiently. If you ski as well as you say you do and want to ski at high speeds, you would be advised to get the longer pair. You do not mention your age, but I am assuming you are quite young and might still be growing or putting on weight. Unless you are very wealthy, you would know that buying a pair of skis is like an investment. Good skis are not cheap, and, unfortunately, neither are some inferior makes. If you buy a pair of skis that are too short, you will probably be getting less for your money and might have to replace them in the near future if you continue to grow.
The long skis will absorb the shocks at high speeds. The smaller ones could break on you altogether oin some types of terrain. I have seen people skiing moguls on long skis. However, they ski them a lot differently than the ones on shorter skis. They often ski them like they are not there at all rather than do fancy manoeuvres around the moguls. In fact, some of the ones who wiggle too much around them are the targets of derisive jokes, like “He must be Swiss!” (showing off and wiggling his behind at the same time).
If you want to know which brand to get, I am not about to advise you, because I do not work in a sports shop and I have not tried them all out. However, why don’t you look at what the skiers on the race circuit are skiing on? I have noticed that a lot of them still ski Fischer and Rossignol. A lot of the Austrians seems to like Fischer because it must be a German brand. However, Rossignol is still a very trusted make of ski. The fact that serious skiers have been trying them for a long time must say something about the quality. The question is really not about the specific brand, but about the specific model of the brand. If you want good quality skis, trying the équipe model of the specific brand, which is what the world cup racers tend to ski, is maybe advisable.
If downhill is what you prefer, you should be considering first a downhill ski. If you like slaalom better, you should be getting something designed more for this activity.
I think you shouldl ask someone in a sports sales shop, but get a lot of different opinions. They are salespeople and can take you too. Ideally, you should ask a coach.
