Surf Brands And Their History

Surfing grew in such great popularity that it became inconceivable for anyone living close to or on the beach to not participate in the sport. The movement was wonderfully portrayed in a couple of movies from the 60s..

Surfing never had any regiment training schemes and this was what drew people to the sport it was all about expression and anyone could have a go with the most basic of equiptment. All you need is a surfboard, and some swimming ability and the nearby beach. The “Sport of Kings” was most enjoyed by men at first but now is seeing an increasing number of women and young girls who have been trained. There was also an increase in the amount of surf clothing being produced.

From the 60s to the 80s it would be very unusual to see many women doing water sports at the beach. In fact in the early days of the sport many men discouraged women from taken part and there are still those that do not like to surf with women even today. Currently surfing has never been more popular amongst women and there are surf clothing brands and customised surf boards to support this.

Take a look at little Trixie surf boards and Roxy clothing. Through the 60s numerous surfing accessories (e.g. wetsuits, rash guards and chain) applications was not available for surfers. To keep them warm before the advent of wetsuits, surfers, many of them bare skin, especially in winter, braved the very cold ocean water. Now the surfer, as well as in the case where there is freezing cold water, is able to surf all year round and can be warm at the same time.

Wetsuits, constructed of neoprene, are manufactured in such a way that they hug the body closely when worn. The wetsuit places a layer of water in the trap and keeps the body warm; it will also adhere to the skin. Boots & gloves manufactured from neoprene are now also commonly available and provide extra protection against the elements for those that like to surf no matter what the conditions.
