Are you supposed to use the emergency/parking brake whenever you stop and exit the car?
I just received my learner’s permit and my mom says you aren’t supposed to use the emergency/parking brake whenever you get out of the car. My dad on the other hand says otherwise. Which is correct? Give seperate answers for automatic and manual transmission if there’s a difference please.
It’s a heck of a good idea to get into the habit of setting the parking brake when you exit the vehicle. Whether or not you’re “suppose” to or not.
It’s a back up plan – much like wearing suspenders AND a belt to be sure your pants don’t fall down, you can be sure the vehicle won’t roll if the transmission is in gear (or P for an auto) and the brake is also set.
