Safety Vests Imply To America To Be Secure And Watchful
The sight of bright yellow and orange neon colored safety vests is seen on workers throughout hundreds of cities and on highways across the US. Most people know what they mean as the neon vests appear around construction sites, accidents on the road and in parking buildings. The visibility gets brighter as the sun’s rays reflect their florescent colors.
Hunters don the blaze orange color by law today when hunting game in the woods on their safety t shirts. These sportsmen are easily seen by other hunters in the same vicinity that might mistake their movements for those of a deer or other large game. In fact the hunters were very concerned the bright orange apparel would hinder the sport they enjoy. Some researchers began a study to determine the colors that deer could see. It turns out deer cannot detect the neon orange and in fact, they are more likely to spot the hunter by scent and movement.
The neon reflective gear is also used by runners, bikers and hikers who are in or near traffic. The retro-reflective clothing makes these sports safer for its enthusiasts. In marathons and bike races the event coordinators require each participant to abide by the law while using the highways during races.
The media workers have also been included and required to wear the neon colored vests. The federal act was legislated in 2008 and media workers around federal right-of-ways and on highways also have to don the highly visible neon colors. The decrease in driving related injuries encouraged the government to protect these workers on and around the federal highways.
Police Officers have slowly come to see the importance of the safety vests when the garment was tailored for their occupation. A company made blue bulletproof vests with light blue retro-reflectors. The high rate of deaths caused by firearms was cut in half in 2009. The vests prevented 3000 needless accidents for policemen on duty that same year.
The cities flaunt their people in yellow and orange as they work and play everyday. The road workers, paramedics, cyclists, traffic directors, and school crossing guards in our own towns have been marked with high visibility colors. Each day they remind the cities that safety is important to the masses. The people include children, construction workers, firemen, policemen, and first responders.
Class 1 is a bright color used for low visibility by government and state workers who are exposed to slow traffic. This includes workers around sidewalks,maintenance crews and parking lot attendants. The next Class 2 vest is approved for people who work near traffic that goes about 25 miles per hour and the protective garment has intermediate visibility. Finally, workers exposed to traffic going speeds of 50 mph wear Class 3 protection, which is at the highest visibility to keep employees safe.
In conclusion, high visibility vests and safety t-shirt are seen most often on highways where federal and state workers need to alert drivers of their presence. The intensity of the green, yellow and orange neon colors alert hunters of others in the woods and drivers on the highways of cyclists, runners, and hikers. The retro-reflectors and bright neon colors cue drivers to be alert and this saves lives.
