WHAT A RASH GUARD IS USED FOR

A rash guard is simply a lightweight, water tolerant shirt made out of nylon, polyestor or lycra matierial. Rash guards are designed to have great wicking ability. With a moisture-wicking fabric the excess sweat on your body will be pulled into the shirt. Rash guards or rashies are known for their water use and are typically worn by swimmers, surfers, water skiers, skim boarders etc,. A rash guard helps protect your skin from the elements and sports related skin irritations. Rash guards are not only used by water and land athletes they have also become a popular clothing item.

A rash guard’s light weight design is one of its greatest features. Even when it’s warm out you can wear a rash guard. It is advisable for you to use a rash guard with UV protection to prevent skin cancer and painful sunburns. Plus, a rash guard will help you stay cool while you’re busy being active. Rash guards are also gaining in popularity for land sports such as football, tennis, martial arts and baseball. The moisture wicking fabric that the rash guard is made out of actually pulls excess sweat away from the skin. Thus, decreasing the risk of skin irritations and chafing.

Most water sport athletes wear the rash guard under a wetsuit to prevent skin irritation and chafing. Surfers, swimmers, body boarders and other salt water athletes spend large amounts of time in wet suits. Because these athletes are constantly in the water they often see skin rashes and irritations around their shoulders and elbows. By wearing a rash guard under the wetsuit you can avoid irritations like this. For an extra layer when you’re swimming, surfing or diving in cold water, try a rash guard.

A rash guard should be enough protection if you are in warm water, a wetsuit won’t be needed. With a rash guard you can still get sun and water protection without the additional weight of a wetsuit.

You can find rash guards in just about every shape and size. It should fit snuggly on your body to provide the most protection. Typically, rash guards come in two versions, short sleeved or long sleeved. In order to find the right rash guard for UV protection make sure to check the label for a UV or SPF rating. While you’re out enjoying the sun be sure to protect your skin with a rash guard.
