How important is it to you to keep your books in good condition?
For me, it matters, but I don’t want my books to look 100% new. I don’t want them to look entirely raggy, either, but I just want them to look like they’ve been read. Does that make sense? I try to keep the covers in good condition, but for me the words inside are what matters most.

My books are important to me but I use them. Unlike some people, I have no qualms about highlighting in them and even writing in them. I use post-its most of the time, but I don’t strive to keep my books pristine unless it’s one I bought strictly as a collectible. My books look lived in and I like it like that. I can pull one from the shelf and go through it for the first time in a year or more, and enjoy seeing my old notes and comments, underlines and highlights.
** Two things I will not do is dogear a page or break the spine of a hard cover.
