Deciding which ski to buy?

I’ll start 1st with some background on me that’s important to know for this post: I’m a pretty advanced skier, but not expert, however I’m completely novice when it comes to buying my own skis since I’ve been skiing hand-me-downs my whole 21 year life. I’m 5’11, 165lbs, athletic. So in answering this question, keep in mind…I can handle both these skis just fine, I’m merely looking for opinions about the quality of the deals. That being said, the decision is between a pair of 2010 165cm Dynastar Contact Cross Ti’s (120/73/104) for $499 and some 2010 165 or 170cm Fischer RC4 Race SC Pro’s (117/67/99) for $561. Both skis have bindings included. I will be using these mostly on groomed East coast mountains, but I have a Montana trip planned for the near future (still probably mostly groomed trails there though). So what do you all think, which one is more for the money even though they’re pretty different skis?

Well you should be on a 170-175 based on your size and ability. But the way you describe how you ski, you should buy the Dynastar’s, they are a great all-mountain ski. The Fischers are a slalom ski and while they will turn on a dime, at higher speeds they will be a bit wobbly and won’t be as good overall. Don’t feel you need to buy one of these two pairs of skis. The 165′s will be a bit short for you. If you can stick it out for the rest of the season, you will find killer deals at the end of the season, and will be able to get the right ski for you, for a great price.

Grammars in Contact

Grammars in Contact

$45

The present volume examines the ways in which linguistic traits may change in a contact situation. It contains an encyclopaedic introduction, which sets out a general theory of contact-induced change, and twelve subsequent chapters, which analyse the effects of language contact on grammatical systems in a variety of languages belonging to different geographical areas and diverse types. – ;Languages can be similar in many ways – they can resemble each other in categories, constructions and meanings, and in the actual forms used to express these. A shared feature may be based on common genetic origin, or result from geographic proximity and borrowing. Some aspects of grammar are spread more readily than others. The question is – which are they? When languages are in contact with each other, what changes do we expect to occur in their grammatical structures? Only an. inductively based cross-linguistic examination can provide an answer. This is what this volume is about. The book starts with a typological introduction outlining principles of contact-induced change and factors which facilitate diffusion of linguistic traits. It is followed by twelve studies of contact-induced changes in languages from Amazonia, East and West Africa, Australia, East Timor, and the Sinitic domain. Set alongside these are studies of Pennsylvania German spoken by Mennonites in Canada in contact with English, Basque in contact with Romance languages in Spain and France, and language. contact in the Balkans. All the studies are based on intensive fieldwork, and each cast in terms of the typological parameters set out in the introduction. The book includes a glossary to facilitate its use by graduates and advanced undergraduates in linguistics and in disciplines such as. anthropology. – ;an impressive book…an important contribution to the study of languages in contact. – Rolf Theil Languages in Contrast;…this volume can be recommended to all those interested in typology and language contact. – Gisella Ferraresi Folia Linguistica
